January Lookback

Shabbaton

In the peaceful, rural town of Durham, CT, on the scenic campus of Waterbury Yeshiva, YOY enjoyed a transformative Shabbaton.

The Yeshiva welcomed special guests, including beloved former Rebbe, Rabbi Dovid Bielory, and his family, who traveled from Baltimore to reconnect with students. Several alumni also returned, reliving their own fond Shabbaton memories while leading zemiros, delivering divrei Torah, and engaging with current students—reminding them to make every moment at YOY count.

The Shabbaton featured a power-learning seder, where the Yeshiva collectively completed Maseches Makos in just 45 minutes. The 12th grade led a chabura, prepared in advance with Rabbi Luria, that explored a sugya with thoughtful questions and analysis for younger students. Motzei Shabbos ended with live music, dancing, and a spirited dodgeball game, leaving students energized and united.

By the time they returned to Boston, students were recharged and ready to tackle the weeks ahead, carrying the inspiration sparked by this unforgettable Shabbaton.

Learning and Melava Malka

With the early winter Shabbosim leaving students with extra time on Motzei Shabbos, Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael offers an exciting and enriching opportunity: an optional learning seder led by Rabbi Boruch Nissim Lebovits, followed by a pizza Melava Malka.

This popular Motzei Shabbos program has become a highlight of the week, drawing a large crowd of students. Each session features a different source-based topic, sparking thought-provoking discussions.

At Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael, even downtime is transformed into an opportunity for learning, friendship, and inspiration.

Drone Elective

An exciting new elective at YOY has 9th and 10th graders buzzing! Designed by Drone Launch Academy, the online course offers comprehensive drone training, covering flight fundamentals, safety protocols, and real-world industry applications.
Upon completion, students have the opportunity to earn their drone piloting license. Through this hands-on experience with emerging technologies, students gain valuable skills that enhance their education and open doors to future opportunities.
