Chanukah Yom Iyun

In preparation for Chanukah, YOY held a special Yom Iyun focused on The Chiyuv/obligation for Ner Chanuka. The entire Yeshiva united for a morning learning seder to deepen their understanding of the intricacies of the mitzvah. Following the seder Rabbi Feldman gave a shiur on the material studied.

The Menahel noted the program’s success as students continued to ponder the material, sending him thoughtful questions days later. The Yom Iyun infused the Yeshiva with energy and ignited the Chanukah spirit of Torah learning, with students engaged and inspired well beyond the day itself.

Braving the Cold for the Warmth of Shabbos

Every Friday night, YOY students eagerly attend the weekly Oneg Shabbos, hosted in Brighton or Newton by Rebbeim or YOY families. Braving even frigid winter nights, students walk up to 45 minutes for the warmth of Shabbos: friends, singing, shmoozing, and hot cholent. Each week, a student is selected to prepare and deliver a shiur.

Recently, at Rabbi Halpern’s home, students heard visiting lecturer Rabbi Leibish Langer share his parents’ Holocaust survival story, leaving them inspired with powerful lessons in emunah.

“My husband and I were both so impressed with what the boys get to experience at a Friday night oneg. Everyone was so dialed in and enthusiastic, it was a pleasure to see and an honor to co-host, along with the Banks Family.”

Building Skills, Building Pride: New Shop Class Elective

This year, YOY students are nailing it—thanks to Shop Class, an exciting new elective led by Mr. Ben Bressel. The class is designed to provide students with practical, hands-on learning experiences that connect classroom concepts to real-life applications.

Earlier in the year, students toured a construction site to see how plumbing, electrical work, and other elements combine to bring a building to life. Currently, they are constructing an impressive bike and scooter shelter on the Yeshiva grounds. From brainstorming ideas to detailed planning and safely using power tools, students are mastering the full process of turning a vision into reality.

By building skills and helping their peers, participants are gaining not only practical knowledge but a deeper sense of accomplishment and community impact.

Col. Nissim Hazan Lecture

A large crowd packed the Beis Medrash to hear Colonel Nissim Hazan recount his extraordinary journey through the chaos of Israel’s darkest hours. From reclaiming a Hamas-seized tank to fighting to liberate Kibbutz Be’eri, and leading critical operations deep in Gaza, Colonel Hazan offered a gripping, firsthand account of the Iron Swords War. His stories of courage, sacrifice, and leadership brought the realities of Israel’s defense to life.
