December Lookback

Rising to the Challenge of Retzifus

At the end of December, the entire Yeshiva came together for an uplifting retzifus extra learning afternoon program, with each talmid committing to one full hour of uninterrupted learning. The beis medrash pulsed with the energy of focused Torah, reflecting the well-known teaching of the Chazon Ish on the power of sustained hasmada. Learning in unison created a charged atmosphere that helped each student rise to a higher level. The seder concluded with spirited dancing and a celebratory lunch enjoyed together.

Government in Action

Mr. Yakov Nayowitz, a third-year law student at Harvard Law School, brings the 12th-grade U.S. Government class to life by grounding lessons in real-world current events. From unpacking the recent government shutdown to examining how laws are funded and passed, students explore how civics works beyond the textbook.

With a weekly double period, the class allows for in-depth exploration, legal case analysis, and hands-on learning. Recently, students participated in a spirited mock congressional debate, assuming the roles of senators and the president to pass a bill.

By weaving legal thinking, structured argumentation, and real cases into the curriculum, Mr. Nayowitz makes government relevant, engaging, and intellectually rigorous for YOY seniors.

Next Year Starts Now

This month, Menahel Rabbi Uri Feldman and Mashgiach Rabbi Ari Gelernter traveled to Baltimore and Cleveland to meet prospective talmidim and their families. They were warmly welcomed by schools eager to learn about YOY’s rigorous, integrated kodesh and chol program, built around small classes and individualized attention. Rabbi Feldman was impressed by the caliber of bnei Torah he met, who are serious, motivated, and eager to grow. The Class of 2026 is already making a strong impression.

Chanukah Mesiba

On the fourth night of Chanukah, students enjoyed a lively mesiba filled with ruach and geshmak! Following Maariv, rebbeim and talmidim gathered in the cafeteria for a party featuring brisket, chicken poppers, and, of course, fresh sufganiot.
Inspiring divrei Torah were shared by seniors Yehuda Wolf and Josh Nikfourouz, followed by a keynote address from Rabbi Nesanel Luria, who spoke about the pach shemen as the enduring light of Torah passed through the generations.
The evening was beautifully enhanced by live music from 10th grader Moshe Shalom Davydov, creating an unforgettable Chanukah celebration.

Students Lead the Way: Home Beis Campaign Success

Our talmidim stepped up to the plate during the Home Beis Campaign, making hundreds of solicitation calls, working together as teams, and gaining real experience in achrayus, communication, and achdus. Thanks to your generosity, over 670 supporters helped raise $620,970 to fuel the Yeshiva in the coming year. Thank you for empowering our students and strengthening our Home Beis!
