Honoring Excellence, Celebrating Community

Taste of YOY 2025 was an unforgettable celebration of chinuch, community, and impact. With elegant décor, incredible food, and an energized crowd, the atmosphere was simply electric! We were proud to honor Dr. & Mrs. Shlomo and Tamar Faintuch, Mr. Andrew Wiener, and Mrs. Debra Milgram. Thank you to everyone who attended and showed their support for Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael. You made the night truly memorable!

Distinguished Visitor: Rabbi Tzvi Berkowitz

YOY was honored to welcome Rabbi Tzvi Berkowitz, Rosh Yeshiva of Ner Yisrael and beloved Rebbi of Rabbi Gelernter. Students were especially excited, having heard his teachings referenced so often in class. Rabbi Berkowitz delivered a deeply engaging shiur and expressed admiration for the yeshiva’s remarkable growth since his last visit in 2021. It was an inspiring moment for the entire school.

Vhaarev Na in Action: 9th Grade Trip to Monsey

After months of dedication and growth, Rabbi Wallin and the 9th grade class traveled to Monsey for a powerful Vhaarev Na event that brought together high school talmidim from across the country. Hosted in the grand Atrium simcha hall, the evening featured two full hours of uninterrupted Gemara learning—an incredible milestone that these talmidim had been building toward all year.

The Vhaarev Na program, led at Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael by Rabbi Wallin, emphasizes mastery through deep review and sustained focus. What began as 45-minute sessions has grown to 90 minutes of intense, focused learning—and the Monsey event was the ultimate celebration of that hard-earned growth.

Following the learning, the students joined in spirited dancing and a gala dinner. It was an unforgettable evening—and a well-deserved moment of recognition for our talmidim’s commitment to mastering Gemara.

Exciting Preparations Underway for YOY’s Dormitory Program!

Plans are in motion to welcome out-of-town students to Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael’s newly developed dorm program, launching this coming school year. We have signed a lease for our dormitory and are excitedly preparing to welcome our first dorm students in just a few short months!

To ensure a strong, supportive experience for our talmidim, we’ve appointed Rabbi Reuven Sebbag to oversee the dorm. Rabbi Sebbag brings warmth, energy, and a deep sense of responsibility to his role as dormitory supervisor and mentor.

This exciting expansion reflects the growing reputation of YOY as a place where every bochur is valued, supported, and inspired to thrive.

Exploring Circuits in Science

Mr. Reidel’s 9th grade science class dove into the world of circuits this month! After learning to draw and interpret circuit diagrams and understanding the difference between series and parallel circuits, students brought their knowledge to life. Using Snap Circuits kits, they built real working models—bridging theory with hands-on exploration. The classroom buzzed with excitement (and a few blinking lights)!
